As promised, the title cut is an all-out festive funk jam with a clapalong intro, bright horn harmonies and some of James’ sparkling guitar work. Andrea unveils her wondrous and sensuous flute playing anda jazzier vocal approach on the ultra-romantic "My Favorite Place" before she and James, in a sentimental mood, create a "Sensation" with their beautiful vocal harmonies. "Somethin' Smooth" finds them in an anthemic mode, urging the listener to "do something smooth and cool" over a punchy brass and soul groove. The largely instrumental "Until We Say Goodbye" is one of the disc’s best showcases for the way the couple complements each other musically; Gentle wordless vocals and Andrea’s dreamy flute solo balance James’snappy electric guitar jazz lines magnificently. The title track for their fourth recording and Integy Records debut the dynamic and soulful Joy Ride embraces a globalminded viewpoint and invites all of humanity out for a celebration of life down a windy highway. "The idea of moving beyond the interpersonal love relationships became the driving forceof the album," says Andrea, who sings lead vocals and also plays the flute on the recording."The song ‘Here, I Am’ was conceived about a lover wondering why her partner had to search elsewhere for love when she was right there. But it made more sense to make it aninward journey of finding love within oneself rather than looking outside for it.The title track Joy Ride also spoke from an interpersonal perspective too before it was revised to include everyone. We toyed with the idea of naming the album after the tune‘Something Smooth,’ because that’s how many people describe our music. But our goal has always been to write and perform songs that invite people to relax and have a goodtime. We wanted to open the party for everyone, and Joy Ride was the perfect fit for thisconcept."
