Formed in 2001, The Heavenly States’ signature political pop/punk sound has already won a loyal following among music lovers and critics alike, both in the U.S. and abroad. With the international release in September 2004 of their debut, self-titled CD on the Baria Records label, the band will be finally be reaching the audience it deserves. The timing couldn’t be better. The Heavenly States’ music is all about challenging the paradigm, creating a sound and a vibe unlike anything that has come before, encouraging its audience to actually think and dance, while simultaneously paying homage to the members’ eclectic musical roots and influences. While mere descriptive lines can’t do the band’s music justice, try to imagine what Mozart might have sounded like, had he been composing in 21st century America on an electric guitar, violin and keyboard, with Karl Marx, Albert Einstein and Allen Ginsburg channeling lyrics. And the paradigm is something with which the members are intimately acquainted. Army brats all, Nesseth grew up in Glendale, CA., while siblings Gen and Jeremy followed their army physician father to bases across the U.S., and spent their teens in the shadow of the CIA headquarters in Langley, VA. Their early experiences indelibly colored their artistic vision, and they describe their music as the perfect synthesis between ideas and expression, between art, music, activism, politics, and the ability to create real connections with their audiences and other musicians. In addition to the creation of their own music, The Heavenly States have collaborated with other artists, including; Bill Callahan and Colin Gagon (Smog), Paul Oldham (Palace, Speed to Roam), Aram Stith (Anomoanon, Palace), Eliot Cahn (510 Records, Green Day, Primus, Papa Roach, Rancid, Jawbreaker), Jim Sweeney, Andy Hill and Kev Roberts of Gucciboy Productions. Already, the accolades have come fast and furious.
