All Good Things

Reseña del editor Winners of the LAMC battle of the bands 2005 PACHA (from Pachamama, meaning 'mother earth') sends ripples through out the new global electro scene. Exposed from birth to the pulse of Palo, Son, Cumbia, Reggae and the whole gamma of the Afro-New World tradition, Pacha concoct a positively charged blend that will hit you like a rum laced organic smoothie on the hottest summer day. Playing their first gig at Madison Square Garden, Pacha has from the start created an incredible buzz. In the three years following that initial gig (opening for Aterciopleados) Pacha has performed with Ozomatli, Sidestepper, and Yerba Buena, among others. DJ Nova (writer/producer, King Chango, SiSe, Om) on keys/guitar and Maya on bass make up the core of Pacha, an electro-acoustic groove collective, often sharing the stage with up to seven or eight collaborators. Tienda The Latin-alternative stylings of Pacha Massive aren't easy to classify, and that's a wonderful thing. The duo--Dominican-born Nova (keys/guitar) and Colombian-born Maya (bass)--is part of the same quirky soundscape that includes Orishas, Kinky, and Plastilina Mosh. In fact, Pacha's win at the Latin Alternative Music Conference Battle of the Bands puts them in the championship company of Kinky and Los Abandoned. But Pacha Massive's Bronx-based, bilingual sound is all its own. Trippy loops collide with Colombian cumbia, Dominican palo, reggae, and dancehall. It's an invigorating mix, from the cocktail cool of "Don't Let Go" and "Your Love" to the classic/contemporary vibe of "La Verdolaga." Guest vocalist Letha Francis makes like Dido during "Get It On," and "Prende La Luz" sizzles with street flavor. All Good Things is buoyed throughout by electronic accents, but Pacha Massive's natural talent gives the project its gloriously beating heart. --Joey Guerra
